RULES and REGULATIONS
The Maryland DanceSport Championships is an NDCA recognized event.

Please review the rules of the NDCA by clicking on the "check" to the right.

Additional Rules

Please Note:
1. The Organizers can accept no responsibility for loss or theft of articles left in the changing rooms, ballrooms or hotel rooms. Nor can they be held liable for any injury sustained attending this event. Everyone attends at his/her own risk.

2. No personal video cameras will be allowed. Professional videographers and photographers
will be available.

3. The organizers cannot be held responsible for any personal charges made to the hotel. All participants must pay for their own personal charges including phone and room service.

4. The decision of the judges shall be final.

5. AGE DIVISIONS: see appropriate Entry Form, Pro/Am may enter true age category and one division younger. ( Exception: JV ,Pre-Teen, Jr, ).

6. Dancers are required to be in the “On Deck” area two heats prior to their scheduled heat. Any competitor not on the floor when the Master of Ceremonies calls, is subject to disqualification for that heat.

7. Medallist Material used in closed competition should be based on the current NDCA, Fred Astaire, Arthur Murray, or equivalent American Step List. NO CONTINUITY IN BRONZE AMERICAN ENTRIES.

8. CLOSED CATEGORIES - American & International - (All Bronze, Silver & Gold are closed categories) A student who has competed in previous “MDSC” and won a first place award with 5 or more couples must compete in a higher category in that dance(s). A student may enter in 2 consecutive levels, ( Bronze & Silver ) ( Silver & Gold ) ( Gold & Gold Star )and 2 age Divisons. The NDCA syllabus or equivalent should be used as a guide for the American Style, and ISTD syllabus is used for International Style. Dance positions and/or hand hold must be as described. Step patterns cannot be borrowed from other dances.

9. OPEN DIVISIONS are not material restricted. Dancers still must enter only their level and above.

10. SOLOS are limited to 3 minutes. Solo judging is on impression: students receive score and comments. Music must be provided on separate cassette tapes.

SCHOLARSHIP and ONE DANCE events are not separated by sex and have different age categories than freestyle events. Scholarship events must have a minimum of 5 participants in order to pay prize money, and entrants must have a minimum of 4 entries in any category to qualify for prize money.

12. PACKAGES: The organizers have provided packages to accommodate your need please see Package Information. Hotel reservations must be made through the organizer to receive the special rate.

13. CANCELLATIONS /REFUNDS: the deadline for cancellation refunds is two weeks prior to the event. If the organizers are notified after the deadline refunds will be considered only in case of emergency and a doctors certificate is required. Refunds will be mailed 30 days after the event. No substitutions are allowed for entry cancellations at the event. No exchanges or refunds on admission tickets after the above dates. Entries receive after the deadline are subject to a $50.00 late fee and must be paid by cashier’s check.
